The Hobbit
ALL THE DRAGON-SLAYING AND STEALING STUFF WAS DONE BY TRAINED PROFESSIONALS. DON’T TRY IT AT HOME.
Once upon a time there was a Hobbit.
His name was Bilbo Baggins.
He went to reclaim a Dwarven home
From Smaug, most fierce of Dragons.
Before he left, his time was spent
On breakfast, lunch and dinner.
With second brunch and teatime munch
He didn’t get any thinner.
Going through the hallowed land
Was hard, and of walking he wasn’t a fan,
His tiny legs were out of control,
Before he even met that troll.
The troll was obviously gourmet
At a raw, hairy hobbit the monster cried “Nay!”
But distaste a cook must always defeat,
And over the fire were hung Bilbo’s feet.
Of course, if a hobbit is tied by his feet,
The rest of the hobbit is always near.
But Bilbo was clever and pretended defeat
Though a crackling fire was all he could hear.
Soon came daytime, the troll turned to stone,
And Bilbo could walk, but preferred to groan.
He saddled his pony and proceeded to ride
But then he fell off and unhappily sighed.
Farther and farther went Bilbo the hobbit
Past goblins and giants who got into riots.
His journey was long and his going was hard
He even once thought that he had lost all heart
Well then he found Gollum, a pitiful thing.
And in Gollum’s lair Bilbo found the One Ring.
He left the huge cave with not even a wave
For he had the ring which from Gollum he’d saved
Then Bilbo kept going and reached his destination
In Lonely Mountain was certain cremation.
Because Smaug could breathe fire (like you didn’t know)
And through armies and kingdoms his sputter could mow.
Bilbo was clever so he put on his ring
As he entered the mountain Smaug didn’t hear a thing.
He stole tons of objects including a stone,
And the dragon was sleeping with many a groan.
When he got home, Bilbo was rich
And he threw his old items in a very deep ditch
So here is the moral to which you’ll say LOL,
It’s “To conquer a dragon, you’ll need to be small.”
For time and space the author was pressed,
So the story of Bilbo was greatly compressed.
I need to remind you: don’t try this at home,
Or else your life story will be as short as this poem.
